What We Do

Psychiatric resources available at Senior Adults Specialty Healthcare

Our collaborative approach to wellness starts within SASH. Our practitioners provide psychiatric services working alongside our therapists to treat mental illness with a comprehensive approach. We also collaborate with neurologists to provide accurate causes of dementia and with our own neurosurgeon

Psychiatry is the branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Psychiatrists use pharmacological (medication) as well as non-pharmacological treatments depending on the need of the patient.

Psychotherapy, sometimes called talk therapy or counseling, is used by psychologists and Licensed Counselor Social Workers. The goal is to help patients change behaviors or thought patterns and explore the effect of past experiences on the present situation.

Neurology is the branch of medicine that focuses on the  diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders of the brain and nervous system. At SASH, our focus is on the treatment of disorders of the brain.

Functional neurosurgery looks to restore function of the nervous system through techniques like stimulation (such as deep brain stimulation) or the infusion of medications or shunts to relieve pressure on the brain.

An example is the diagnosis and treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus. This condition  mimics dementia but can be treated and symptoms reversed through neurosurgery.

What to Expect

As a new patient you can expect to receive a thorough evaluation of your current situation and your past experiences. Other tests like lab work or imaging may be ordered to help your practitioner guide your diagnosis and treatment. A treatment plan will be written with your goals in mind.

The plan may include medication, referral for specialty treatment, recommendations for counseling,  and/or  lifestyle recommendations. With your approval, family members are welcome to participate.

Follow up visits are scheduled based on your treatment plan. We currently refer out or offer education on treatments such as:

  • Transcranial magnet stimulation
  • Ketamine
  • Electroconvulsive Treatment
  • Psilocybin
  • Deep Brain Stimulation for depression
  • Monoclonal antibody drugs for Alzheimer’s disease
